Qtum Nodes

Since last week was the first full week since some exchanges performed the ERC 20 Qtum tokens to the main network Ignition tokens, we have seen the community flourish. We want to thank all the people who have been helping others setup their staking nodes, building programs, and the others who are just having fun with Qtum. You rock!

We are almost in every continent, we are already in dozens of countries with hundreds of active community members. It’s exciting to check every morning just how many new dots pop up on the map. Can you find yours?

DoraHack

The “DoraHacks Hackathon — Shenzhen Stop” took place on October 13–14, 2017. About 50 participants joined in this event and they were divided into seven teams. Zhong Wenbin, senior engineer at Qtum, was invited to participate as a mentor, after the 24-hours of hacking, the only one blockchain project, the blockchain browser won first place in the end. They team implemented the visual blockchain browser based on several WeChat microprograms.

The winning team & Wenbin

The wining team claimed that they would devote themselves to improving the project. They hope that they could even illustrate a visual Qtum blockchain browser on mobile phones in the near future, which will help more people understand the technology. Meanwhile, as the mentor of the first place team, Qtum’s Zhong Wenbin, said that: “It is much more important to bring in more developers to the blockchain industry than just passing on the expertise of blockchain technology.”

Are you Staking?

Raspberry Pi Staking

For those of you interested in setting up your own Raspberry Pi to run a node and stake on the Qtum network.

Staking on a Pi — Community Guide

This video tutorial was based on Cryptominder’s text guide which can be found on steemit. Please check the updates he provided in the comments section.

*disclaimer*
Please backup & encrypt your wallets, and always perform some testing before sending large amounts of tokens. If you feel as though this may be too difficult, or aren’t aware of all the inherent risks of cryptographic tokens please reframe.

QT Wallet Staking

Staking on the Qtum-Qt wallet is a lot simpler than using the raspberry pi setup, but it uses more computational resources given it has a GUI. (Please note that this guide was created two months and some things may be out of date, it using the testnet wallet vs the main network Ignition wallet.)

Development Updates

While continuing to enhance the core protocol of Qtum, our developers are actively working on extending the usability of the blockchain. Here’s a look at what they are working on right now.

  • Lightning network implementation based on c-lightning(an alpha version is complete, but needs testing)
  • Adding GUI and “first-class” token support to Qtum Core’s interface
  • Redesigning the Qtum Core GUI to look more professional and be easier to use
  • Managing the on-going ERC-20 to main network token swap among exchanges
  • Creating the x86 VM’s detailed technical design
